Interior HVAC Filter / Cabin Filter
By performing this basic procedure you can save yourself a substantial amount of money.. The first time you do this it may take a few minutes but once you do it once you will not hesitate for your second.
Dealers love to make money changing the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) filter. The Infiniti dealer wanted to charge me $75 when I brought my vehicle in for a warranty repair to change the cabin filter. I promptly replied “No thank you.” I purchased this filter online for $25 and installed it myself.
What does the in cabin HVAC Filter do
-
The purpose of the cabin filter is to clean the air before it enters the cabin of the vehicle.
-
The air is pulled in from the area around the windshield wipers outside the vehicle and directed via the blower fan through the filter and out the defrost, mid section, or feet vents.
Reasons why you want to change the filter
-
It is important to change this filter yearly as it can begin to grow mold and hold allergy-causing particles.
-
It helps with the efficiency of your heating and air conditioning as the air must first flow through this filter.
-
By filtering the air you block the dust and pollen that dirties the vents and interior of the vehicle.
If you are unsure if your vehicle has an in cabin filter, you can refer to your owners manual. You will likely find it in the index under “cabin air filter”.
To get specific information I would recommend a service manual. You can visit your local library they often have these for viewing or purchase one here, which will pay for itself after your first DIY project.
