iPhone 4 Screen Install

Before attempting any repair be sure to ground yourself is an ESD (electro static discharge) strap. This will prevent static electricity from damaging the electronic components within the phone. 
Ensure you wear eye protection and use caution not to cut your finger with the glass splinters.
Tools/Supplies

Scraper or Screwdriver to remove glass fragments
Safety Glasses
ESD Strap

 

Preparation

  1. First ground yourself with your ESD strap.

 

Reusing the earpiece mesh

  1. Some new screens require the use of the old earpiece mesh.
  2. Using a sharp object gently lift the meshfrom the old LCD screen.
  3. Be careful not to cut yourself or damage the mesh.
  4. Try to lift the adhesive from the LCD screen for reuse on your new iPhone LCD
  5. Once removed secure it to the new LCD screen.
  6. Press firmly with a soft blunt object to ensure the mesh is secure.

Attaching the New Screen to the Frame

  1. Take your new iPhone 4 screen and inspect before installation.
  2. Again, ensure the frame and sticky areas are free from broken glass fragments.
  3. Hold the iPhone 4 frame in your hand and slide the LCD cables through the hole ensuring the cables do not kink underneath the screen.
  4. Do not force the screen, ensure the tabs fit within the iPhone frame.
  5. Once aligned press the screen against the frame.
  6. Pay close attention to the 'Home' button to ensure its alignment.
  7. Using the correct screws begin by inserting the corner screws first securing the outer edges.
  8. Apply a light force to ensure the screen lays flat on the frame.
  9. Continue inserting the side screws ensuring the washer fits over the shoulder of the iPhone 4 frame.
  10. Tighten the screws.

Reinstalling the Main Board

  1. It may be easier to remove the rear facing camera before installing the Main board.
  2. Align the iPhone 4 Main board.
  3. the upper left of the Main board fits under the outside frame in a groove do not force the board to lay in place.
  4. Once the board is in the groove align it by pushing forward and down aligning the cables.
  5. Everything will fit into place without forcing anything. Light pressure may be used to hold items into place.
  6. Use the 'Castle' looking standoff screw to hold the board into place.
  7. Place the microphone and speaker into place securing with screws.
  8. Attach the antennae wire
  9. If the rear facing camera was removed reinstall that now and attach the ribbon cable.
  10. Before attaching the upper top metal shield ensure the 3rd left ribbon cable is behind the slot for the shield.
  11. Continue replacing the remainder of the screws.
  12. Pay close attention to ensure all the screws are replaced in the correct spot.
  13. Finally place the antannae securing brace and attach the battery cable.
  14. Secure the battery cable with the remaining screw.
  15. Place the rear cover and slide tightly and tighten the screws.

 

The Installation is now complete, turn your phone on and remove the final pieces of protective film from the face of the iPhone.

If you make a call and you cannot hear anything from the earpieces it is likely one of the ribbon cables came unplugged. If this is the case follow the removal procedure to re-attach the cable
