iPhone LCD Removal

As a General note, Apple uses a contact cement in its assembly processes that has very good adhesion characteristic's, I find that once you can work your way under the piece you can cut away at the cement freeing the part from the adhesive.

Before attempting any repair be sure to ground yourself is an ESD (electro static discharge) strap. This will prevent static electricity from damaging the electronic components within the phone.

Tools and Parts required:
New LCD/Glass screen
Pry Tools
Phillips Screw driver
Anti static strap

Removing the Rear Cover

  1. Remove the SIM card
  2. Remove the antennae cover by prying down and back with a plastic pry tool or your thumb.
  3. Remove the 3 Phillips screw with the Phillips screw driver.
  4. Keep these seperate, they are a special thread to grip the plastic they are screwed into.
  5. Using the Pry Tools work your way around the rear cover loosening the latches from the frame.
  6. It may take several times around to get all the latches loose.
  7. Gently lift the Rear Cover off the iPhone.
  8. Disconnecting the ribbon cable from its connector.
  9. Place the cover off to the side for installation

Main Board Removal

  11. The 3 cables are from the LCD and Digitizer and speaker.

Bezel, LCD, Digitizer and Glass Removal

  1. Remove the 9 screws holding the outer bezel.
  2. 1 screw on the bottom has special threads be sure to set this one off to the side.
  3. This screw is bottom right when the phone is face down.
  4. The glass is secured by contact cement on the bottom and top
  5. Work a pry tool around the edges lifting the glass

Be careful the glass can break and cause cuts

  1. While lifting the glass release the LCD latches.
  2. There are 3 latches on each side.
  3. When lifting the screen off work the cables thru the slots
  4. Remove the button and set off to the side.
  5. Take notice of the shape of the button.
  6. There is a flat section on the button that is nearest to the LCD.
  7. This is important during installation.

If your replacing the Screen because of a cracked glass then you will need to remove all the remaining pieces of shattered glass from the phone body.

  1. Using a pry tool gently lift all remaining pieces of glass from the adhesive.
  2. Ensure all remaining pieces are removed

If you do not remove the new glass pieces the new screen could crack due to uneven pressure.

It is likely you will can reuse the adhesive that is on the phone. In the event you have scraped away all the adhesive I recommend using a Double-Sided-Sticky tape to adhere the glass to the phone.
