3g iPhone Screen Install

Before attempting any repair be sure to ground yourself is an ESD (electro static discharge) strap. This will prevent static electricity from damaging the electronic components within the phone.
Ensure you wear eye protection and use caution not to cut your finger with the glass splinters.
Tools/Supplies

Scraper or Screwdriver to remove glass fragments
Safety Glasses
ESD Strap
Double-Sided Adhesive

Preparation

  1. First ground yourself with your ESD strap.

Attaching the New Screen to the Plastic Frame

  1. If the plastic frame has been distorted at all reshape by heating it and reshaping the distorted area.
  2. Apply the Adhesive to the plastic frame trimming the edges so it fits within the edges.
  3. Ensure there is a maximum amount of area is covered by the adhesive.
  4. Affix the new screen to the plastic frame pressing firmly on the edges.
  5. Heat the glass to enhance the adhesion.
  6. Remove the protective film covering the rear side of the glass.

Do not scratch the black areas of the new glass this will be visible from the front side
If you do scratch the black area it can be covered with a black permanent marker

Reinstalling the LCD into the Frame

  1. Being careful not to touch the screen part of the LCD slide the LCD into the Plastic frame with the new glass installed.
  2. Insert the top of the LCD intot he frame first under the top tab.
  3. Rest the LCD onto the tabs.
  4. Starting on one side depress the LCD onto the tabs while gently pulling the tabs apart.
  5. The LCD will fit perfectly into the frame.
  6. Work your way around the LCD doing the doing the same with the tabs to fit the LCD into place.
  7. Once the LCD is in place insert the Phillips screws.
  8. Insert the screws ensuring not to over tighten them.
  9. Now the screws are in place affix the protective tape that you removed covering the screw heads.

Attaching the Ribbon Cables

  1. Now that the screen has been replaced and is secure in the frame you can reattach this to the phone.
  2. Lay the top of the screen into the body of the phone.
  3. Align the ribbon cables with their respective connections.
  4. Ensure the ZIF connector is in the open position (brown tab up).
  5. Insert the ribbon cable into the ZIF connector.
  6. Push until the depth line is in and even with the connector.
  7. Close the brown tab by pressing downward to latch the cable into place.
  8. Press the lengthwise (cable that is on the bottom)connector into position first.
  9. Depress the the vertical connector into place depressing until you feel it latch.

Completing the Installation

  1. Now that all the ribbon cables are in place and securely fastened complete the installation.
  2. Ensure the top of the screen body is placed while pushing down on the screen.
  3. Make certain the protective tape is concealed while closing the phone.
  4. Gently depress the top chassis into the phone body aligning the Phillips screw holes.
  5. Once aligned insert the screws ensuring to to ever tighten them.

The Installation is now complete, turn your phone on and remove the final pieces of protective film from the face of the iPhone.

 

If you make a call and you cannot hear anything from the earpieces it is likely one of the ribbon cables came unplugged. If this is the case follow the removal procedure to re-attach the cable
