iPhone 4 Screen Removal

Before attempting any repair be sure to ground yourself is an ESD (electro static discharge) strap. This will prevent static electricity from damaging the electronic components within the phone.
Ensure you wear eye protection and use caution not to cut your finger with the glass splinters.

Tools/Supplies 
Scraper or Screwdriver to remove glass fragments
Safety Glasses
ESD Strap
 

Preparation

  1. First ground yourself with your ESD strap.
  2. Prepare your tools, Gather your Phillips screwdriver, sim card tool, suction cup.
  3. Turn the phone off.

Removing the Sim card

  1. First you will want to remove the SIM card.
  2. Insert the SIM removal tool or paper clip into the hole of the SIM card holder.
  3. Depress the tool into the hole until the card holder pops out.
  4. Pull the SIM card out completely and set this off in a safe place.

Removing the Glass from the iPhone body

With this model iPhone you remove the rear cover.

  1. Remove the two Phillips screws at the bottom of the phone.
  2. Slide the rear cover up away from the screw holes.
  3. Lift the rear cover off the frame

Remove the LCD from the frame

  1. Remove the components as outlined in the video
  2. Ensure you track where the screws were removed for assembly
  3. Once the major components are removed you have access to the screws fastening the screen to the frame.
  4. Remove all 10 screws securing the LCD to the frame

Removing the Broken Glass from the Frame

  1. Once the screws are removed lift the damaged LCD from the frame using care not to break the screen further.
  2. Pay close attention the the area around the home button to ensure the button is not damaged.
  3. Once the screen is removed it is necessary to throughly clean the broken bits for the adhesive tape.
  4. It is very important that all small bits of glass are removed to allow the new LCD to lay flat on the phone frame.

Use extreme caution when removing the glass from the frame! The HOME button is attached to the Plastic frame but can be damaged if it is lifted with the glass.The HOME button cable is very fragile and can tear if the home button is handled in an rough manner.
